Steve Buckner, Split Diamond Ranch owner, became involved with the Angus Breed in 1954, in Avoca, Iowa. Raising and showing bred heifers in 4-H, the beginning of his longstanding cattle interest.

In the cattle business for over 25 years, the main ranch from Wise River Montana which could only support 110 pairs, which consisted of mainly Simentals and Braunvieh was moved to the Jefferson River Valley in Whitehall Montana with a big expansion of raising three cattle breeds, Simmental, Braunvieh, and Angus. The Braunvieh cattle gained nationwide recognition winning 4 out of 5 Grand Championships for Pen of Heifers at The National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. 1995-1999.

Since this time in an effort to raise maternally superior females, the Ranch has moved exclusively toward the Angus Breed.

This family run ranch, with son Hans and his wife Diana returning to the ranch after completing University studies in Animal Science, are inherently aware of the needs and concerns of the ranching industry.

Each spring prior to breeding, the herd is culled, selecting only the top 300 maternally superior females. All yearling heifers are AI'd, some 2 year old heifers along with only dams with a nursing ratio of 103% or higher are AI'd. The balance of the cows, though registered, are used as recipient cows for the Embyo Transfer Program. The Donors are the top Selected Females which incude several Pathfinder Dams.

It is our conscientious breeding program over the course of 20 years that keeps ranchers from across the country coming back. Our honest , no nonsense approach to our ranching business can also help yours.

Call or email us today, you'll be glad you did!

All that we are able to achieve would not be possible without the outstanding help we recieve from the Rodrigues, and Walker families.
